RADIO IMAGING TECH. (RIT)

Radio imaging technology is the art and science of producing medical images using x-radiation. These images are used for routine diagnostic needs or form part of complex investigations. Technologists produce images for a radiologist's interpretation to aid in medical diagnoses. It is not a hazardous occupation. The dangers of radiation are well recognized and rigidly controlled. The conscientious technologist can derive much personal satisfaction as a contributor to the success of the health team and the well-being of the patient.

A career in radiologic technology can lead in many directions. They work in a large hospital, a suburban outpatient clinic or a rural physician's office. They could specialize in dozens of clinical areas ranging from prenatal care to orthopaedics. They could manage an entire radiology department, including its budget and personnel. With additional education, they could become a radiologist assistant, expanding their capabilities by serving as a radiologist extender.
